Desert Outdoor Adventure Activities in Dubai
Desert Safari The Signature Dubai Outdoor Experience
A desert safari is the most popular outdoor activity in Dubai for a reason. It combines multiple experiences into one four- to six-hour outing. The standard package includes dune bashing by 4×4, sandboarding, camel trekking, a Bedouin-style camp dinner, and cultural entertainment including belly dancing, tanoura, and falconry shows. Roar Adventure Tourism operates from Dadabhai Camp at the Lahbab red dunes, which are Dubai’s highest and most dramatic sand dunes reaching up to 300 metres.
Type: Morning safari (5–9 AM), afternoon or evening safari (3–10 PM), overnight safari (check-in 3 PM to 7 AM).
Price: Shared packages from AED 150 per person. Private packages from AED 350 per person. VIP and private packages include the exclusive Sufi Dance Show available only through Roar.
Best season: November to March. Summer safaris available in early morning slots.
What to bring: Comfortable clothing, closed shoes, sunscreen, water, and light jacket for evening desert drop in temperature.
Dune Bashing
Dune bashing involves an experienced driver navigating a modified 4×4 usually a Land Cruiser with roll cage and GPS tracker across steep sand dunes at angles of up to 45 degrees. The vehicle deflates tyres before entry to improve grip, then re-inflates on exit. It is one of the highest-adrenaline activities available outdoors in Dubai.
All commercial dune bashing operators in Dubai must be licensed by the DTCM and use RTA-approved vehicles. Roar Adventure Tourism is DTCM and DET licensed and uses modified vehicles with full safety equipment.
Duration: 30 to 60 minutes of active dune driving per session. Often included within a desert safari package.
Not suitable for: Pregnant women, people with severe back problems, motion sickness sufferers, or those with serious heart conditions.
Quad Biking (ATV Riding) in Dubai Desert
Quad biking or ATV riding lets you drive a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle across sand dunes independently. It is the most hands-on desert activity for thrill seekers. Riders follow a marked circuit across the Lahbab red dunes under guide supervision. No prior experience is required operators provide a safety briefing before departure.
Duration: 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or 90-minute circuits available.
Price: From AED 150 for 30 minutes. Combined quad bike and camel ride packages available.
Age requirement: Minimum age 16 years for solo riders. Children from 5 years on small bikes with parent supervision at some operators.
What to wear: Closed shoes, long trousers, protective eyewear provided on-site.
Dune Buggy Dubai
A dune buggy is a two- or four-seat open-frame vehicle built for off-road desert driving. It is faster and more exposed than a 4×4 and gives the rider direct control on the dunes. Dubai offers both self-drive buggies (for those who want to steer) and passenger buggy tours. The Lahbab red dunes are the preferred location due to the dune height and variety of terrain.
Duration: 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on circuit.
Price: From AED 200 per person for a shared ride. Self-drive from AED 350.
Sandboarding Dubai
Sandboarding is essentially desert snowboarding. You strap your feet onto a board and slide down the face of a sand dune. Most desert safari packages include sandboarding as a standalone activity between dune bashing and the camp dinner. The red dunes at Lahbab have the height and sand texture best suited to fast, clean runs.
Price: Included in most desert safari packages. Standalone sandboarding tours from AED 100.
Difficulty: Easy. Beginners can learn the basics within two runs.
Camel Trekking Dubai
Camel trekking is a slow, immersive way to experience the Arabian desert. It connects visitors directly to Bedouin heritage. The camel is the traditional desert transport of the UAE and riding one across the dunes at golden hour is one of Dubai’s most photographed outdoor experiences. Most desert safari packages include a short camel ride at the camp. Longer standalone camel treks are also available for those wanting a more authentic outing.
Duration: 15 minutes included in standard safari packages. Standalone treks up to 2 hours.
Price: Included in most safaris. Standalone camel trekking from AED 80.
Hot Air Balloon Dubai
A hot air balloon flight over the Arabian desert at sunrise is one of the most peaceful outdoor adventure activities in Dubai. Flights depart before dawn from the desert south of Dubai, rise to altitudes offering panoramic views across the dunes, and sometimes encounter camels and desert foxes below. Flights last around 45 to 60 minutes and typically include breakfast at a desert camp and a short camel ride on landing.
Duration: Approximately 4 to 5 hours total including transfers, flight, and breakfast.
Price: From AED 695 per person.
Best season: October to April. Flights are weather dependent and may be cancelled in high winds.
Operator note: Only DTCM-approved balloon operators are permitted to fly commercially in Dubai.
Falconry Experience Dubai
Falconry is one of the oldest Emirati traditions and is listed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Several desert camps in Dubai offer a hands-on falconry session as part of an outdoor cultural experience. Guests hold a trained falcon on a gloved fist and watch the bird fly to the falconer’s lure. Roar Adventure Tourism includes falconry demonstrations at its Dadabhai Camp as part of VIP desert safari packages.
Overnight Desert Camping Dubai
Overnight desert camping in Dubai means sleeping under the Milky Way in the Arabian desert. Most packages are Bedouin-style and include dinner, cultural entertainment, stargazing, and a sunrise breakfast before return to the city. The overnight experience transforms the standard desert safari into a slow, atmospheric adventure that gives you the desert at its most raw deep quiet after midnight, cold clear air, and stars in a sky uninterrupted by city light.
Price: From AED 350 per person. Private overnight packages from AED 900 per couple.
Wadi Bashing Dubai
Wadi bashing is off-road 4×4 driving through dried riverbeds and mountain passes primarily in the Hatta area and the Hajar Mountain foothills accessible from Dubai. It is a step up from desert off-roading in terms of technical difficulty because the terrain includes rocks, narrow passes, and uneven ground. Most wadi bashing tours depart from Dubai, travel approximately 90 minutes to Hatta, and spend three to four hours off-road before returning.
Price: From AED 250 per person in shared tours.
Water Outdoor Adventure Activities in Dubai

Price: From AED 150 per 30 minutes. Guided tours from AED 250.
Requirement: You do not need prior experience. A safety briefing is provided before each session.
Flyboarding Dubai
Flyboarding uses water jet propulsion via a hose connected to a jet ski. Riders strap their feet onto a board and are lifted up to 10 metres above the water surface. It is one of the most visually spectacular water sports in Dubai. Despite looking difficult, most beginners can hover successfully within 15 minutes of instruction. Flyboarding operates in the Dubai Marina area and at Palm Jumeirah.
Price: From AED 250 for a 30-minute session.
Parasailing Dubai

Price: From AED 200 per person.
Best location: JBR beach and Palm Jumeirah operators.
Kite Surfing Dubai

Price: Lessons from AED 400 per session. Equipment rental from AED 150 per hour.

Quick-dry clothing and life jackets are provided.
Price: From AED 200 for a 20-minute session.
Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) Dubai
